The agreement with the U.S. Forestry Service requires the club to exist in order for the Panther Top Shooting Range to remain open and available to the public. This is because the Mountain Country Rod & Gun Club is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the range. Some of our members have committed to conducting that regular upkeep of the range grounds and target frames, and without them, the USFS would close the range. Having support for the club ensures their work will continue.

While having a means of providing that support is important, the MCR&GC is so much more. Over the years, the club has participated in worthwhile events in support of fishing, hunting and the shooting sports, resource conservation, and related activities which promote the greater awareness and participation (see About Us).

The club meets on the third Tuesday of each month (the exception is in December when the meeting is held on the second Tuesday in order not to conflict with holiday travel). Visitors are always welcome to attend meetings. Often, a guest speaker will make a presentation on a given topic in their area of expertise. Past speakers have included Cherokee County Sheriff Dustin Smith, various officers of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, conservation specialists, a local attorney and even Alan Kay, the History Channel’s first season (2015) winner of their survival show, Alone.

MCR&GC is also a social club. It’s a gathering of people with similar interests in outdoor activities, and each time you attend a meeting, as we like to say, you just might meet a new best friend. Our annual Christmas party each December lets members gather to celebrate the holiday and reflect on the year.

Whether or not your schedule allows you to actively participate, at the end of the day, it’s an opportunity to be a part of a welcoming community, and support the club’s ongoing efforts.

We hope you’ll join us today.
